KeyCulprit doesn't collect your data.
Effective November 2, 2026. This policy covers the KeyCulprit app for Mac and this website.
In short
KeyCulprit works entirely on your Mac. It doesn't connect to the internet, and it doesn't collect, sell or share personal data. On the App Store this is listed as Data Not Collected.
What the app reads on your Mac
To do its job, KeyCulprit reads these things locally. None of it leaves your Mac.
- Key presses during a test. With Input Monitoring on, KeyCulprit sees the shortcut you press so it can show where the press stopped. Presses aren't saved.
- Shortcut settings. For Scan, it reads shortcut settings from macOS and from other apps' preference and configuration files.
- App menus. Only if you turn on Running apps' menus and allow Accessibility, it reads the menus of running apps to list their shortcuts.
- Running apps. It lists running apps as suspects, and quits or reopens an app only when you ask it to.
What the app stores
Two settings, kept in KeyCulprit's preferences on your Mac: your appearance choice (light, dark or system) and whether it has already asked for Input Monitoring. Deleting the app and its preferences removes them.
No tracking
No analytics, advertising, tracking or third-party code that sends data. If you've chosen in macOS to share crash and usage data with app developers, Apple may pass anonymous crash reports to us. You control this in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
This website
This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking.
If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply. We don't add you to a mailing list or share your email.
Children
KeyCulprit collects no data from anyone, including children.
